A power tool stand can give a benchtop machine a working surface, while a mobile base sits beneath a machine or its existing stand. Start with that distinction. These six picks cover adjustable steel frames, a plywood hardware kit, a rolling tabletop stand and a fixed stand that must stay on its feet.
Quick picks
Our ratings compare documented support options, positioning hardware and supplied parts. Check the exact machine fit and selected package before ordering.
WEN MB500 Universal Mobile Base with Adjustable Steel Frame
The MB500 is a straightforward choice when you need an adjustable base under an existing machine. WEN documents both square and rectangular configurations, with two fixed and two swivel casters. Measure the machine and follow the manual for its serial-number range before assembly.
- 11.8–35.4-inch square range
- Two swivel and two fixed casters
- Two foot-locking brakes
Square and rectangular frame settings provide documented geometry choices. These are not an exact-machine fit guarantee.
Two fixed and two swivel casters with two foot controls suit a mixed steering arrangement. No rolling-force claim is made.
The adjustable frame and running gear are supplied; check machine fastening and assembly requirements.
BORA PM-2500 Adjustable Mobile Base with Two Swivel Casters
Choose the PM-2500 for an adjustable steel base with foot-operated levelers. Its manual documents two swivel casters and fixed wheels. The K1218 extension rails are separate, and listing sections disagree on the maximum square size, so confirm the current fit limits before ordering.
- 1-inch frame adjustment steps
- 3-inch wheels
- Foot-operated levelers
Rails support multiple frame layouts in one-inch steps. Conflicting maximum-square claims are withheld, not treated as added coverage.
The selected PM-2500 has two swivel casters, fixed wheels and foot-operated levelers, rather than the PM-2550 all-swivel configuration.
Base components are included; optional K1218 rails and machine-specific mounting needs are separate.
BORA PM-3550 All-Swivel Adjustable Mobile Base
The selected PM-3550 Base / 4 Swivel casters configuration gives you all-swivel running gear. It is a different purchase from the PM-3500 two-swivel option. The frame supports a machine from below; it does not supply a bench-height work surface or prove your machine can be moved safely.
- Four swivel casters
- Adjustable steel frame
- Foot-operated locking levers
Its listed adjustable rectangle is documented, but starts larger than the compact mixed-caster bases and has no evidenced compact square option here.
Four swivel casters distinguish the selected configuration; foot controls provide its stated stationary-position mechanism.
Frame and running gear are supplied; plan assembly, machine placement and any separately required extension.
POWERTEC UT1008 Rolling Planer Stand with Melamine MDF Top
Choose the orange UT1008 when you need a supplied tabletop as well as wheels. It includes a melamine MDF top, shelf, frame, wheels, levelers and lever caster. The manual lists three mounting-hole patterns and a 300-pound maximum; check both against the exact planer before purchase.
- 23-1/16 × 20-1/8-inch top
- 29.5-inch working height
- Integrated lever caster
A fixed supplied tabletop and three documented hole patterns define its mounting options; the patterns still need matching to the tool.
Integrated wheels, levelers and a lever-activated caster provide rolling and stationary controls.
The package supplies the stand, melamine MDF top, shelf and stand hardware, avoiding a separately made worktop.
BORA PM-1100 Plywood Mobile Base Hardware Kit
The PM-1100 is the DIY choice for a custom plywood base. You receive the corner and wheel hardware, not the plywood panel shown in the assembled example. Budget for a separately sourced 3/4-inch panel and the cutting, drilling and fastening required by its instructions.
- Buyer-supplied 3/4-inch plywood
- Two swivel and two fixed wheels
- Foot-lever controls
A separately prepared plywood panel allows custom support geometry; custom size does not imply unlimited dimensions or safe load.
The manual identifies two swivel casters, two fixed wheels and foot-lever controls.
You must separately source and prepare the plywood panel before the hardware becomes a usable base.
POWERTEC UT1002 Stationary Tool Stand with Expandable Split MDF Top
The UT1002 suits a benchtop machine that can stay in one place. Its supplied split MDF top expands from 14 × 25 to 20 × 25 inches, and one foot adjusts for leveling. POWERTEC explicitly prohibits adding casters, so buy a designed rolling stand if mobility is essential.
- 14 × 25-inch split top
- Top expands to 20 × 25 inches
- One adjustable leveling pad
The supplied split tabletop has one documented expansion option, adding flexibility beyond a fixed top.
One adjustable leveling pad supports fixed placement. The manufacturer prohibits caster retrofit; its score reflects that mobility constraint.
The stand, split MDF top and shelf are supplied; machine-specific fastening still requires checking.
Core specifications compared

Frame sizes and tabletop sizes describe different parts of a setup. A tabletop measurement is not the stand’s floor footprint or a guarantee that a machine’s mounting holes align. Load figures are published maximum claims, not BTG load tests or approval for a particular machine.
Choose the support role first
If the machine already has a suitable stand and only needs repositioning, compare an under-tool frame such as the WEN MB500 or BORA PM-2500. These packages supply the base hardware. They do not add a bench-height tabletop. The PM-3550 offers four swivel casters in the selected configuration, but that hardware difference does not establish easier loaded movement on your floor.
For a benchtop planer that needs its own work surface, the POWERTEC UT1008 includes a top, shelf and mobile undercarriage. Its manual gives a 300-pound maximum and three mounting-hole patterns. Compare the actual planer’s requirements with those instructions before buying; a long list of compatible tool types is not an exact model match.
For fixed placement, the POWERTEC UT1002 supplies an expandable split top and one adjustable leveling pad. POWERTEC says not to add casters to this stand. If you need wheels, choose a stand designed with them. The PM-1100 serves a different need: it supplies corner and wheel hardware for a plywood base you make yourself. The panel is a separate purchase, so its item price does not represent the finished setup cost.
Check the exact model and package
WEN MB500: the current product page and newer manual agree on an 11.8-inch minimum square, a 35.4-inch maximum square and a maximum 51.2 × 19.7-inch rectangle. WEN links separate manuals for serial numbers 125660-XXXXX and lower, and 125878-XXXXX and higher. Match the instructions to the unit received instead of assuming every revision uses identical assembly parts.
BORA PM-2500: the current listing gives 36 × 36 inches in its bullets and 35 × 35 inches in another section. We have left the maximum square size unresolved. The retrieved manual supports one-inch rail adjustments and the two-swivel configuration, but does not settle that maximum. Confirm it with BORA if your machine is near the limit. K1218 extension rails are separate.
BORA PM-3550: our selection is the Base / 4 Swivel casters option. The related PM-3500 two-swivel offer is a different configuration, and an extension shown beside the base is a separate product. The PM-3550 manual has inconsistencies in its parts-table quantities and generic wheel wording; the selected listing and assembly drawings support the four-swivel arrangement. We do not use those inconsistencies to infer a tilt measurement or a stability advantage.
POWERTEC UT1008: this pick is the orange UT1008 with its supplied melamine MDF top. UT1008V and the flip-top UT1012 are separate offers. Check the selected model, mounting-hole pattern, load limit and lever placement, rather than transferring specifications from a related option.
Assembly and positioning
Read the support manual together with the machine manual before installation. The base must suit the machine’s mounting, weight distribution and operating requirements. A capacity number alone does not answer those questions.
- Measure the machine’s actual support footprint and account for fastener clearance where its instructions require it. Do not use shipping dimensions as working dimensions.
- For PM-1100, allow for sourcing, cutting, drilling and fastening the plywood. The assembled photo includes a panel that is not in the hardware kit.
- Follow the exact manual when securing the machine and arranging the wheels, levelers and controls. Check the completed setup before use.
- The retrieved BORA and WEN instructions require unplugging power tools before repositioning and lowering the setup to its stationary supports before operation. Follow the instructions for the actual base and machine.
- Keep UT1002 on its designed feet. Its one leveling adjustment is intentional, and adding casters is prohibited by the manufacturer.
How we compared these setups
We screened 25 candidates from the broad power tool stand and mobile base category and selected six configurations from BORA, WEN and POWERTEC. The shortlist includes the lower-priced plywood kit and a stationary stand. We used current Amazon US product pages, manufacturer product pages and exact-model manuals where accessible. BTG has not performed hands-on rolling, load or stability tests on these products.
Every card uses the same three editorial dimensions: Footprint options (40%) describes documented support-geometry choices; Positioning hardware (35%) compares the supplied steering and stationary-position controls; Setup provision (25%) considers the supplied support components and any separately prepared panel. These dimensions give mobility features credit. A fixed stand can still be the better purchase when a machine should stay in one place.
The Editorial Rating is the weighted average, rounded to one decimal. Rank follows the unrounded result. MB500 and PM-2500 tie at 8.4; MB500 appears first because its current precise frame limits are corroborated. PM-3550 also displays 8.4 after rounding its 8.35 result. The scores do not measure safe load, tipping resistance, rolling force, durability, value or universal compatibility.

Final verdict
Start with the MB500 for a documented adjustable frame under an existing machine, or the UT1008 when you need a supplied tabletop and mobile undercarriage. Choose PM-3550 specifically for its selected all-swivel hardware, and PM-1100 when you want to prepare a custom plywood panel. UT1002 is the fixed-workstation choice. For PM-2500, settle the maximum square fit before buying near that boundary.
