Start with the space around your soldering work and the filters you will need later. A hose-fed cabinet, a stackable surface-intake unit and a small bench absorber place different demands on that space. Our six picks compare the exact kit, controls and replacement parts. The Hakko FA430-KIT1 leads for its supplied duct and documented parts system; the smaller options suit different bench layouts.
Quick picks
Hakko FA430-KIT1 Fume Extractor with Rectangular Duct Kit
Choose this cabinet when a separate duct and a documented parts system matter. KIT1 includes one rectangular-nozzle duct, plus the standard prefilter and main filter. A second duct is a separate purchase.
- One rectangular-nozzle duct kit
- Three airflow settings
- Filter replacement indicators
The included adjustable duct separates intake placement from the cabinet. Two ports offer an expansion route, but this offer supplies one duct only.
High, medium and low settings and filter indicators are documented. KIT1 maps to the US FA430-16 unit and C1571 intake kit.
A1585 and A1586 are identified standard consumables, with current manufacturer stock and a parts breakdown. Optional HEPA filters are separate products.
Weller ZeroSmog Shield Pro FT91019299 Fume Extractor
A compact surface-intake unit for a bench using a compatible Weller station. The Pro adds adjustable extraction and an RS232 connection. Check the station and connection cable separately; it uses FT91000047 rather than the standard Shield filter.
- Adjustable extraction control
- RS232 station connection
- FT91000047 replacement filter
The low-profile surface intake keeps the unit together on the bench. It supports stacking within the stated station footprint, but has no separate positioning duct.
Adjustable extraction, indication and a documented station connection add useful controls. A compatible station and the required connection lead must be matched separately.
The common manual maps Pro to FT91000047, and a current US replacement offer names that exact part. Do not substitute the standard Shield foam filter.
FumeClear FC-100A Fume Extractor with Flexible Hose
A hose-fed cabinet with ten prefilters and a combined particle/carbon main filter in the current offer. The manufacturer lists a filter alarm for its manual-control model. Its current replacement page has several configurations, so match the delivered filter revision before buying spares.
- Flexible intake hose
- Ten advertised prefilters
- Manufacturer-listed filter alarm
The flexible hose separates the intake from the cabinet for a different bench arrangement. This is a geometry advantage, not proof of stronger fume capture.
The manufacturer page for the selected manual-control FC-100A documents a knob, filter alarm and supplied intake hardware. These support adjustment, a status prompt and initial setup; alarm accuracy is not independently tested.
The current manufacturer pages list a combined main filter alongside three-media terminology and multiple replacement options. Ordering requires matching the delivered revision; neither interchangeability nor a service-life saving is assumed.
Weller ZeroSmog Shield FT91019190 Black Edition Fume Extractor
A self-contained surface-intake design with a work light and replaceable combination filter. The Black Edition is FT91019190. Its FT91000046 carbon-foam filter differs from the Pro model, and a soldering station is not part of this offer.
- Integrated work light
- Stackable bench format
- FT91000046 combination filter
A low-profile housing and integrated intake make it a useful stackable format. Intake direction stays tied to the unit rather than an independent hose.
The work light and self-contained setup are useful. Pro-style RS232 connectivity is not credited to this model, and conflicting speed-control descriptions are not used in scoring.
The manufacturer and shared manual identify FT91000046. The filter is replaceable and model-labelled; the standard and Pro cartridges are kept distinct.
Hakko FA400-04 Benchtop Smoke Absorber
A simple open-face absorber that can stand upright or lie low on the bench with its standard A1001 carbon pad. The 999-198 particle-filter option and C1568 arm stand are separate purchases, with different positioning requirements.
- Upright or low-profile placement
- Standard A1001 carbon pad
- Optional arm stand sold separately
Two standard-filter orientations provide useful flexibility. The intake remains attached to the body, and the optional 999-198 filter requires upright or elevated positioning.
The standard unit offers a simple supplied-filter setup. It lacks the documented multi-speed and status provisions of the more elaborate kits in this list.
A1001 has an exact manufacturer replacement route. The optional 999-198 filter is clearly separate; standard pad replacement has no filter-status feature credited here.
Weller WSA350 120V Benchtop Smoke Absorber
A 120V bench absorber with a stand that tilts to different angles and a replaceable carbon pad. The listing identifies WSA350F as the spare; the manufacturer sells that replacement as a three-pack.
- Stand tilts to different angles
- 120V selected model
- WSA350F three-pack supply
The documented adjustable stand changes the intake angle while keeping the fan and filter together. It earns the same positioning band as the FA-400; a separate duct offers a different arrangement.
The basic unit avoids hose assembly, but no variable-speed or station-connection benefit is credited. The selected listing names a replacement filter.
WSA350F is explicitly matched by the manufacturer and a current US offer. No filter-life interval or automatic replacement reminder is claimed.

The model links above lead to the supporting manufacturer records, except WSA350, whose current Amazon manufacturer section documents the adjustable stand. Filter grades are the manufacturers’ descriptions. Physical filter elements and the functions of their media can have different counts.
How we chose and scored
We screened 25 candidates and retained six offers from Hakko, Weller and FumeClear. Each finalist has an exact model match, a documented supplied configuration and an identifiable replacement-filter route. The ratings weight Bench Positioning at 40%, Controls & Setup at 30% and Filter Upkeep at 30%. They assess mechanical options, operating convenience and parts purchasing.
This is a research comparison. BTG has no hands-on test record for these products and has not measured capture, filtration, noise or filter life. The scores do not establish exposure control or suitability for a particular workplace. Follow the exact model’s instructions and the requirements of your process; this guide covers electronics soldering bench hardware.
The FA400 and WSA350 both score 7.7. We list the two-orientation FA400 before the tilting-stand WSA350 to present their different layouts; that order carries no claim of better fume capture.
Choose a format that fits your bench
A separate intake and cabinet
The FA430-KIT1 supplies one C1571 rectangular-nozzle duct with the FA430-16 unit. Its two ports leave room for another duct, but KIT1 includes only one. Low, medium and high settings and filter indicators make the supplied controls clear. Buy the exact kit rather than assuming every FA430 listing includes the same intake hardware. Hakko’s kit specification lists the contents and optional parts.
The FC-100A is the other hose-fed choice here. Its manufacturer page identifies manual and remote-control offers separately; the manual option lists an airflow knob, filter alarm, hose and round and square hoods. That documentation earns its control score. The extra work comes when ordering filters: the current replacement page has several configurations, and their names alone do not establish interchangeability. See the current manual-control package and FC-100A replacement options together.
An integrated surface intake
The two ZeroSmog Shield models keep their intake in the housing and can stack with a compatible bench station. The Pro FT91019299 adds adjustable extraction and an RS232 connection for compatible Weller equipment. Check the exact station and required connection lead separately. The Black Edition FT91019190 has a work light and uses a different filter. A station is not included in either extractor offer. Weller’s shared manual shows the separate filter IDs and Pro controls.
Exact Black Edition documents disagree on power and describe adjustment differently from the shared manual. We leave power and speed adjustment unresolved instead of awarding an advantage or assuming that adjustment is absent. Those details need clarification if they determine your purchase.
A simple bench absorber
The FA400 can stand upright or lie low with its standard A1001 carbon pad. The WSA350 changes angle on its adjustable stand. Those are useful mechanical choices when comparing where the unit will sit. The FA400’s optional 999-198 particle filter has a separate positioning restriction: Hakko specifies upright or elevated use. Its C1568 arm stand is also a separate purchase. See the FA400 accessories and placement notes.
Match the filter before ordering spares
- FA430-KIT1: A1585 prefilter and A1586 main filter are the standard parts. The A1572/A1573 HEPA options are separate products, not the supplied configuration. Check the exact kit parts list.
- Shield Pro: FT91000047 is the Pro replacement. Weller describes activated-carbon granules; do not substitute the standard Shield cartridge based on the family name.
- Shield Black: FT91000046 is the standard Shield replacement, described as E10 EPA with activated-carbon foam. The manufacturer’s replacement page identifies that part.
- FC-100A: the current Amazon offer and manufacturer package describe ten prefilters and one combined main filter. The same manufacturer page still uses three-media stage wording, while the replacement page offers several options. Match the actual delivered version before purchasing a set or individual element.
- FA400: A1001 is the standard replacement carbon pad; the optional particle filter is a different item.
- WSA350: WSA350F is the matched carbon-pad replacement, sold as a three-pack.
Our upkeep scores cover identification, access and ordering. They do not predict how long a filter will last. A status light or alarm adds a prompt; it does not independently verify every filtering function.
Questions before you buy
Why is there no airflow or noise ranking?
The available listings do not provide a consistent set of comparable measurements. Some exact-model pages also disagree on size, weight or flow. We omit those numbers rather than treat them as equivalent tests or explain the differences as packaging without evidence.
Does a filter label prove the whole unit is suitable?
A media label describes one part of the product. This comparison does not validate the installed system, its capture at your work position or its adequacy for a particular exposure. Weller’s manual, for example, treats the work process and filter maintenance as separate requirements. Use the exact product documentation when evaluating your application.
Final verdict
Choose the Hakko FA430-KIT1 when a supplied separate duct, three settings and a clearly mapped parts system are your priorities. The Shield Pro suits a compatible Weller bench where its connection matters. The FC-100A offers a hose-fed alternative with a revision-matching burden for spares. For a simple carbon-pad format, compare the FA400’s two positions with the WSA350’s tilting stand.
