Best GPS Dog Trackers in 2026

Six GPS dog trackers compared by fit, battery modes, escape alerts and the subscription you need to keep tracking.

A GPS dog tracker needs to fit your dog, stay charged and reach a working cellular network. The Tractive DOG 6 is our starting pick for live location and escape alerts, while lighter attachments, larger batteries and shared family plans suit different households. Compare the exact hardware and service bundle before ordering.

Tracking tools Loved 8.7/10

Safe Zones and Lost Mode provide everyday escape and recovery tools, dependent on Verizon LTE-M coverage.

The 16 g unit attaches to existing gear. Up to two months is a usage-dependent maximum; Fi estimates about two days in Lost Mode.

Best for Large Dogs
Tractive DOG 6 XL GPS Dog Tracker, Black TG6XLC
8.6 ★★★★★ ★★★★★

Tractive DOG 6 XL GPS Dog Tracker, Black TG6XLC

Pick Reason

Choose the XL for a large dog when fewer routine charges matter more than a small device. It keeps Tractive's LIVE and Virtual Fence tools, but the 70 g unit is intended for dogs above 44.1 lb.

  • For dogs above 44.1 lb
  • Up to 6 weeks with Power Saving Zones
  • IP68-rated housing

Tracking tools Loved 9.2/10

The same LIVE and Virtual Fence tools as DOG 6 include multi-network support. Signal conditions still govern whether a location reaches the app.

Wear & charging Loved 8.3/10

The six-week maximum requires Power Saving Zones. At 70 g and a 44.1 lb minimum, XL carries a clear size tradeoff.

Plan & sharing Loved 8.2/10

This black XL listing needs a separately purchased Tractive plan. Family sharing is a Premium-plan feature.

4

Fi Series 3+ GPS Dog Collar, Gray XL FC3C
8.5 ★★★★★ ★★★★★

Fi Series 3+ GPS Dog Collar, Gray XL FC3C

Pick Reason

For owners who prefer a complete smart collar, Series 3+ combines a stainless frame, LED and wireless charging. This listing is Gray XL. Check the collar size before buying; its three-month battery maximum assumes mostly-at-home use.

Our Verdict
Tracking tools Loved 8.7/10

Safe Zones and Lost Mode run through AT&T LTE-M. The documented recovery functions are useful, but they cannot eliminate cellular dead zones.

Wear & charging Loved 8.4/10

The integrated collar and wireless base are convenient if XL fits. Fi estimates three months only at low activity, and about two days in Lost Mode.

Plan & sharing Loved 8.2/10

A Fi GPS/LTE plan is separate. Household sharing is useful, but this hardware listing does not include a confirmed prepaid service period.

The 29.4 g unit fits collars up to one inch. Fourteen days is a maximum; Beast Mode is advertised at about three to five days.

Plan & sharing Loved 9.2/10

The 30 g unit fits existing collars/harnesses on dogs at least ten pounds. Thirty days is conditional on use and network coverage.

Plan & sharing Loved 7.8/10

Battery figures are manufacturer maxima, not continuous GPS runtimes. Tractive’s longer estimates use Power Saving Zones. Fi’s current support estimates about two days in Lost Mode from a full charge. Life360’s more frequent Beast Mode is advertised at about three to five days. Actual use, signal and settings change charging intervals.

How we chose these trackers

We screened 20 current Amazon US candidates and selected six exact listings from four brands. We excluded Bluetooth tags, duplicate finishes, specialist training systems and products whose exact model could not be reconciled. Amazon listings establish the selected selling unit; current manufacturer pages and support documentation establish the specifications and limitations.

BTG has not field-tested these trackers. Our editorial ratings weigh documented tracking tools at 40%, wear and charging at 35%, and plan and sharing at 25%. Recommendation order follows different buying situations. Scores do not measure GPS accuracy, real escape-alert delay or recovery success.

Choose by fit and daily routine

Tractive DOG 6: the general starting point

The selected black bundle includes six months of Premium service. Confirm that wording at checkout because hardware-only listings also exist. The unit is intended for dogs above 8.8 lb. The current Amazon copy says up to ten days of battery, while Tractive’s current DOG 6 page gives up to fourteen with Power Saving Zones. Neither figure promises continuous LIVE tracking. Tractive model details.

Fi Mini: keep the collar your dog already wears

The Mini’s 16 g unit suits owners who want a light attachment rather than a replacement collar. It charges over USB-C and uses Verizon LTE-M. Check the attachment against your collar or harness and check coverage at home and on regular walks. Its current two-month maximum depends on use and battery-saving connections. Fi Mini details.

Tractive DOG 6 XL: make room for the battery

The 70 g XL is for dogs above 44.1 lb. It offers the same main tracking tools with a larger wearable and a six-week maximum under Power Saving Zone conditions. The selected black XL is hardware requiring its own paid plan; it is not the six-month DOG 6 bundle. Compare Tractive sizes.

Fi Series 3+: choose the correct collar size

This exact listing is Gray XL. The integrated collar, stainless frame and wireless Fi Base suit owners happy to replace their dog’s collar. Fi’s three-month maximum describes mostly-at-home use; its support table gives four to six weeks for moderate activity and up to two weeks for high activity. Lost Mode draws more power. Fi battery conditions.

Life360 Pet GPS: a shared household map

Life360 puts the pet on the family’s map and supports shared care routines. Silver supports up to two Pet GPS devices. The free year applies to new members and current members without an active membership, then renews automatically. Existing paid members should check their plan’s device capacity. Current trial and plan terms.

Reserve Mode begins below 6% battery and provides occasional Bluetooth updates when a nearby phone connects. It does not continue live GPS. Standard Mode also saves power inside a saved Place, where live tracking pauses; the device updates when it leaves. Choose the mode deliberately. Life360 mode details.

Petivity: basic tracking with two limits to accept

Petivity offers live location and activity monitoring on a 30 g unit for dogs at least ten pounds. Its Safe Zones remain listed as coming soon, so choose another pick if escape alerts are essential today. Each tracker needs a subscription. Once you purchase one, Petivity says the account-linked device cannot be gifted, transferred or resold. Petivity specifications and ownership FAQ.

What to check before buying

Coverage where your dog actually goes

Every finalist uses cellular service to send remote location data to an app. A GPS receiver’s ability to find its position does not guarantee that the collar can send that position through a cellular dead zone. Check the maker’s coverage information and test location and alerts on familiar routes before relying on the device.

Tractive documents multiple network partners. Fi Series 3+ uses AT&T LTE-M, while Mini uses Verizon LTE-M. Petivity relies on AT&T and T-Mobile. Your phone’s own carrier does not establish the tracker’s coverage. Fi Series 3+ network details; Fi Mini network details.

Battery estimates that match the job

A dog resting near a recognized home connection uses a tracker differently from a dog being followed in recovery mode. Ask how long the device can track during a search, how it reports low battery and how often you will realistically charge it. Treat an advertised maximum as a conditional estimate. Keep the charging lead or base accessible.

The service commitment after checkout

Check the exact included service period, eligibility, renewal, per-device charges and cancellation terms. A lower hardware price does not establish a lower total cost over several years. For multiple dogs, compare the number of supported devices as well as the subscription amount. Keep the account and notification permissions current.

Frequently asked questions

Will these trackers work without a subscription?

These six need active service for their connected location features. Included months cover a limited period; they do not make the hardware permanently subscription-free. Confirm the plan before activation.

Can a virtual fence contain a dog?

The alert boundaries described here tell the owner when a dog leaves an area. They do not physically contain the dog. Keep secure fencing, leash habits, identification and supervision in place, and test notifications with a controlled walk.

Can health tracking diagnose a problem?

Activity and behavior trends can be useful observations to discuss with a veterinarian. They do not establish a diagnosis or replace veterinary care. Do not buy a location tracker on an unsupported medical promise.

Final verdict

Start with the DOG 6 bundle if the fit, coverage and included service suit your needs. Choose Mini for a lighter attachment, XL for a large dog, Series 3+ for an integrated collar or Life360 for a shared family setup. Petivity is a narrower option for basic location and activity when you can accept its missing escape alerts and transfer restriction. Check fit and local coverage before committing to a plan.
